Facial Aging

One of the most intimidating parts of aging is the changes in look that the body undergoes. Most specifically, many human beings hate to see the onset of wrinkles in their face and on other areas of the body. There are many changes that the face will see as a person moves throughout the decades of his or her life.

The Earliest Wrinkles
When the baby fat of youth begins to melt away, the face begins to change and takes on the look of man or woman in a very meaningful way. The first wrinkles can be carved into that smooth surface when that person is still in his or her twenties. The first lines to be seen are generally classified as motor wrinkles. That is, they appear in regions of the face that are continually changed as a result of expression. When a person smiles, frowns, scowls, or squints, the skin is repositioned. Over time, this leads to lasting impressions, in the form of wrinkles.

Crow’s Feet and Smile Lines
It is usually in a person’s thirties that he or she will notice fine lines building around the eyes. Commonly called crow’s feet, there are generally more apparent in those who frequently work in the sun or who spend a lot of time at a computer. The regular act of squinting speeds up the development of crow’s feet Smile lines – fine lines at the corners of the mouth – are also apparent for many people at this stage of life. Blood vessels can form near the surface of the skin, so they are easily seen on a bare face. Brown spots, known as age spots, can suddenly appear and facial hair may also increase in both men and women at this stage of life. There are many spa treatments that are aimed at people in their thirties, including chemical peels to treat the blood vessels and age spots. Austin laser hair removal can be beneficial for removing unwanted facial hair.

Smoking and Sunlight
Once a person reaches his or her forties, signs of aging become more apparent. Brow lines and naso labial lines (wrinkles between the nose and mouth) appear and become more defined. Though the majority of wrinkling happens later in life, the process of aging is sped up by certain factors.

Regular UV exposure, for instance, can be very damaging to the skin and will lead to premature signs of aging in most people. This can be prevented with continued sunscreen use. Most experts agree that anyone who is going to be outdoors – regardless of the time of year – should use a UV-blocking sunscreen on his or her face. Many cosmetics have this feature built-in today, which can assist in the prevention of wrinkling.

Signs of aging can also be prevented by leaving cigarettes behind. This habit is associated with increased wrinkling as well and is known to be harmful in many other ways as well. In fact, many people are turned away from age-related spa treatments because they are smokers.
